Bali Indigenous Film Festival January 26-28, 2018

Bali’s first-ever indigenous film festival will take place in Ubud January 26-28, 2018, featuring 50 films from 13 countries dealing with the lives and struggles of indigenous and tribal peoples. 

Operated in cooperation with Handcrafter Films, the festival will showcase stories from first nations people in a forum there they can share their stories and lessons learned in film-making. 
The festivals seeks to support  young indigenous film makers in Indonesia with profits from the festival lending support to young Indonesian artists to seek to create films on ethnic communities across the archipelago. 
Admission to each film is Rp. 50,000.  A Rp. 350,000 day pass ticket allowing admission to all the films show on particular day is also on sale/
A festival pass covering three days of films costs Rp. 350,000, 
The opening event on Friday, January 26, 2017 includes 2 films from India that includes a traditional dance performance for Rp. 200,000..
Some of the highlights will include award winning films such as JagoA life Underwater about the Bajo, sea gypsies of the Togian Islands of Sulawesi;  Connection to Country an aboriginal film that was voted most popular film at the recent Melbourne Environmental Film Festival; Long Saan about the connection between traditional Dayak culture and the forest; and As Worlds Divide - a beautifully shot film among the Mentawai tribes of Sumatra. 
In addition, 12 indigenous directors and producers will be on hand in Ubud to speak about their films.
