ARTOTEL Sanur continues its continuing  program of lobby art exhibitions with “The Enigma: Looking at Life Through Women’s Eyes” – by featuring works by male artists depicting women.

The Enigma depicts the life of women depicted by artists' in which women's eyes can be found on each artwork. The Enigma is showcasing diverse perspectives in seeing women as the subject of the artists’ creation – recalling their personal connection with their daughters, partners, sisters, mothers, friends, and lovers in way in which women are not portrayed simply as “beautiful propaganda.”

In the current exhibition, among the paintings on display is Anas Etan's large painting revealing his thoughts about society’s attitude towards the broadcast media on economic, political, social, and cultural issues, especially how it often objectifies women.

Inspired by his daughter’s imaginative stories, Awan Yozeffani’s paintings serve as a bite of reality that questions our origin and our cultural identity.
Djunaidi Kenyut focuses his interest towards Balinese women who carry things on their heads, opening the possibility to interpret the resulting meaning in explicit or implicit manners.

Imam Sucahyo challenges traditional view with his enigmatic expression about the beauty of the complexity and struggles of female prostitutes and trans genders that are often marginalized by our society.

Also in the exhibition, IBK Sindu Putra presents his artistic take on established artistic interpretations on Balinese women where beauty was defined by intricate headdresses and earrings, taking a contrarian approach served cold through black and white interpretation of crumpled pictures. Through his paintings, Sindhu invites us reminiscences of things past that may have become a myth

Running from February 15 through April 15, 2018 and available 24-hours-a-dayin the open space lobby of the ARTOTEL on Jalan Kusuma Sari in Sanur, the works of Anas Etan, Awan Yozeffani, Djunaidi Kenyut, Imam Sucahyo and IBK Sindu Putra will be on view and available for sale.
The showing is organized under the auspices of Cata Odata – an Ubud based art collective.
